EXHIBITION 102x 2006

This exhibition presents 102 architectural proposals by an equal number of teams of architects from Greece, Cyprus, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and other European Union countries, on the subject of the modern Athenian apartment block. This is the complete set of design entries submitted to the architectural competition for a housing and shopping complex in Metaxourgeion, Athens, that was announced in April 2006 by GEK SA and DOMES international architectural review.

The 102 designs provide an overview of ‘state of the art’ design for the Athenian apartment block covering the full range of architectural approaches from pragmatic modernized versions of the established architectural form, to radical compositions that respond to futuristic scenarios of life in the historic centre of Athens or conceptual proposals contributing a critical approach to the apartment block as a modality of habitation, form of construction, or town planning cell…

Over 400 design drawings and 100 models were on show. Amongst the architects who participated with entries, were new talented architectural school graduates, and several of the most distinguished Greek architects who have been instrumental in shaping and revitalizing the Athenian apartment block over the past fifty years.
