Corfu, Greece

The spectacular site -in adjacency to Villa W1- is located on a steep, south facing slope with lush vegetation offering direct access to two private beaches and stunning vistas towards the old town of Corfu.
The scheme in response to the brief requirements for a holiday house with four guestrooms and extensive – mostly outdoor- spaces for hosting and entertaining, makes use of the site’s topography and sectional manipulation from a pre-existing structure. Four different in shape and volume rectangles are inserted into the rock, creating a sequence of five levels and a multitude of indoor / outdoor, deep / shallow, light / dark, open / closed, sunken / cantilevered spaces for inhabitation.
Internally, a generous staircase and lift connect the main levels of the complex while externally, a system of stairs allow the vertical circulation through the steep topography of the site, while reassuring the autonomy of each unit or volume whenever required.
